Remembering Silver: Creating My First Photo Book

My sweet old dachshund, Silver passed away in early December 2007. He was nineteen years old and one of the true loves of my life. I took him home from an animal shelter when he was nine years old and he spent ten years as part of my family. As part of my grieving process, I poured over photos of Silver and recounted lots of Silver stories with family and friends. That's when I decided it would be a great idea to make a photo book featuring many of the photos I had taken of Silver over the years. It was therapeutic to pull together the photos and organize them into a book form.

A photo book is a beautiful and professional way to showcase lots of photos and/or tell a story. Several websites have easy-to-use software that creates these wonderful books. For my book, I used Shutterfly.com. I am very happy of the quality of my photo book it's now a permanent fixture on my coffee table.

While I've done quite a bit of scrapbooking in my past, I find the photo book my new favorite creative outlet. It's easy and doesn't take nearly as much time as a full-fledged scrapbook. Plus, it's much cheaper than a scrapbook and you can easily create multiple books if you want to give them as gifts.

I was so happy with my photo book of Silver that in the last month, I've created two additional books. One is a photobook of a trip to the Milwaukee zoo with my niece, Laney. I made three copies of the book, one for my sister for her birthday, one for my mom, and of course, I kept one for myself. The next photo book that I made was for my friend Dean's 40th birthday party. I pulled together all the photos I had and created a funny memory book to present him at his surprise birthday party. He loved it! In fact, everyone loves the books and I can't wait to create my next one.
